BLONDING DECODED
Blonde decoded: how to choose the right lightening service
One of the biggest misconceptions about being blonde is believing that all services yield the same result.
Balayage, full highlights, full bleach, or a Platinum Card can all make your hair blonder... but they definitely don't create the same effect.
At APART, we don't expect you to know the hairdressing jargon before making an appointment. Even less for you to know which technique your colorist will use.
Our services are designed based on the result you want to achieve, not the technique used to get there. Let us guide you to book the right appointment: we gotchu!
Start by asking yourself one question
Forget the technical terms!
- I just want a little pop of light. (Mini Highlights)
- I want people to say, "Did you change something?" without knowing exactly what. (Mini Highlights)
- I want to be blonder, but I still want to see my natural color. (Partial Highlights)
- I want to look like I just got back from two weeks in Tulum. (Balayage)
- I want a bright blonde that grows out well and requires low maintenance. (Balayage / Partial Highlights)
- I want blonde everywhere, I don't want to see any natural color anymore. (Full Highlights)
- I want a big change, I'm in a post-breakup glow. (Full Highlights / Full Bleach)
- I want the lightest blonde humanly possible. (Platinum Card)
- I want my hair to be the main character. (Platinum Card / Major Transformation)
We're joking, but seriously, it helps us orient ourselves, haha.
Mini Highlights (5% to 20% brightness)
Think of Mini Highlights as an accent of light.
A few strands are placed around the face and along the parting to illuminate the areas that naturally catch the light.
The change is intentionally subtle. You won't leave completely transformed, but your color will look fresher and brighter.
Ideal for:
- Refreshing an existing blonde
- Brightening the face frame
- Maintaining color between Full Highlights appointments
- People looking for a very discreet change
- Frosted tips on short hair
Partial Highlights (20% to 50% brightness)
Partial Highlights are synonymous with dimension.
A good portion of your natural color is retained, creating a contrast with the blonde highlights. It's this contrast that brings depth, movement, and a very natural result.
You will be visibly blonder while keeping your natural base.
Ideal for:
- A more prominent blonde
- Lots of dimension
- Easier maintenance
- Natural blending at the ends
Full Highlights (50% to 90% brightness)
Full Highlights maximize coverage, not necessarily the intensity of the blonde.
The goal is to bring light to the entire head of hair. This doesn't automatically mean platinum blonde or a uniform blonde, but simply that blonde is present everywhere.
The amount of dimension, softness, or intensity of the result will then be customized according to your desires.
Ideal for:
- A complete blonde transformation
- More light throughout the hair
- A fully customized result
- People who want to feel much blonder
Full Bleach (100% brightness)
Full Bleach involves lightening every strand of hair, from root to tip.
Unlike highlights, there is no natural dimension left. You get a uniform blonde canvas that can then be toned to warm, beige, neutral, or cool blonde depending on the desired result.
Ideal for:
- A uniform blonde
- Creative colors like vivids
- Big transformations
- People who want very little or no dimension
Balayage (sun-kissed effect)
Balayage is designed to create a very soft and natural blonde.
The light is mainly concentrated on the lengths and ends, creating a sun-kissed effect, like after a summer at the beach.
Like highlights, balayage is not a single technique. It's a result that can be achieved in different ways depending on your hair type and goal.
Ideal for:
- Low-maintenance blondes
- Natural regrowth
- Lots of softness and dimension
- A sun-kissed, beachy effect
Platinum (it's a lifestyle)
Platinum is not just a bleaching taken to its maximum.
It's our most advanced lightening service, designed to achieve the lightest blonde your hair can safely get.
Depending on your starting point, it may require several techniques, several lightening steps, and sometimes several appointments.
Ideal for:
- Very cool blondes
- Maximum lightening
- Metamorphosis transformations
- People ready to maintain their blonde regularly
The same service, several techniques
This is probably the most surprising part.
When you book Mini Highlights, Partial Highlights, Full Highlights, or Balayage, you are not booking a technique.
You are booking a brightness result. Genius!
Babylights, foils, teasylights, Airtouch, balayage, and so on... these are simply our tools, our colorist techniques, which we choose to create the lightening you desire.
Two people can book the exact same service and leave with two completely different results.
Because every head is unique. Your starting color, your hair density, the level of contrast, your coloring history... all of this is taken into consideration to achieve the best possible result.
Our role is to choose the best approach for your hair. Yours is simply to show us where you want to go.
Full Bleach or Platinum Card?
This is probably the question we get asked most often.
Full Bleach aims to create a uniform blonde base. The Platinum Card pushes the lightening as far as possible to achieve an ultra-light blonde, with as little warmth as possible.
What about color corrections?
If your hair has had some adventures (box dye, going from black to blonde, removing a raccoon tail, correcting a color band, an old bleaching, or a more complex history), a color correction may be necessary before reaching your goal.
We always prefer to build a blonde in several steps rather than compromising the health of your hair to go faster.
Still hesitant?
There isn't just one blonde, but there is YOUR blonde.
Simply choose the service that most resembles the result you imagine, bring us some inspiration photos, and we'll build the plan together during the consultation.
The technique is our responsibility. The result is yours.
And that's exactly why no two blondes look alike at APART, helloooo!
